Blog #9 Fast Food

Hi Readers,

Fast food establishments are at every corner, offering a quick and convenient solution to the continuous challenge of balancing work, family, and personal life. Having easily accessible, ready-to-eat meals has rooted itself in modern life, catering to the on-the-go lifestyle that many people lead. However, as the convenience of fast food becomes increasingly mixed into our routines, it is important to discuss the negative impact that frequent fast-food consumption can have on our health.

Fast food tends to contain various unhealthy ingredients. It is high in salt, sugar, saturated fats, trans fats, and processed preservatives and ingredients. As stated in the film, Fresh, “The more you process food, the less nutritious it is.” It’s safe to say that most fast food lacks nutrition.

Due to excessive calorie intake and unhealthy fats in fast food, weight gain is common. If people eat more calories than they burn each day, they gain weight, and this can lead to obesity and eventually type 2 diabetes. The image below goes into detail on the negative effects fast food has on the body.

I am guilty of being a repeat offender of buying fast food for convenience. As a result of this, my daughter became prediabetic. We learned through her endocrinologist how we needed to cut fast food significantly as it helped play a role in my daughter’s condition. Life gets hectic, so it’s easy to take the more convenient way out but keep in mind the long-term effects convenience can have.
